ITIL ® v3 Accreditation

When the OGC commissioned the refresh of the ITIL best practice guidelines, they also appointed APM Group as the approved Accreditation Body for ITIL.

APMG's accreditation scheme requires an accredited training organisation to have:

  • Clearly defined processes
  • Accredited material
  • Approved trainers capable of running each course they offer.

Without approved trainers a training company cannot be accredited, so registration of their trainers gives a company the right to be accredited. Only accredited companies can use ITIL Intellectual Property (IP) in their training materials and offer examinations directly.

There are two categories of trainer:

  • Sponsored Trainers with an ITIL Accredited Training Organisation (ATO)
  • Independent or Pool Trainers able to work for any ATO.

Anyone wishing to study for an ITIL qualification will know that accredited trainers have proven their competence to teach and their knowledge of the subject.

Examination Panel

APMG has formed its international examination panel for ITIL V3 examinations.

The exam board has been given the objective of delivering high quality, internationally acceptable examinations to coincide with the delivery of OGC's refreshed ITIL.

Sharon Taylor has been appointed as Chief Examiner. She is joined on the panel by a team of experts from around the world, including Fox IT's Vernon Lloyd.

Examination Institutes

Examination Institutes are responsible for administering the delivery of ITIL examinations, using the syllabus determined by the Accreditation Authority, APMG.

APMG has reached agreement with ISEB and EXIN, the current ITIL version 2 examination institutes, to administer examinations for ITIL version 3.

Accredited Training Organisations

Accredited Training Organisations (ATOs) will be responsible for delivering training, using accredited course materials and trainers, to prepare delegates for examinations administered by one of the Examination Institutes.

Fox IT is already accredited by both ISEB and EXIN to deliver ITIL version 2 training, and will be seeking accreditation for new ITIL version 3 courses as and when the syllabi are made available.
