Pragmatic Project Management
Overview
2-day public or single organisation event
Pragmatic Project Management is a generic course intended as an introduction to the basic techniques of sound project management. The principles contained within it can be applied to any type of project and the course has been designed for compatibility with the PRINCE2™ project management methodology.
PRINCE2™ is a Trade Mark of the Office of Government Commerce
The course will give the opportunity to practise many of the techniques learned and gain experience of working in project teams.
The course also comes with a basic project management toolkit comprising of a typical step by step project lifecycle guide plus a series of template documents sufficient for managing the project from beginning to end.
Objectives
To provide proven and practical guidance on the successful management of projects within a continual service improvement program.
Who should attend?
Pragmatic Project Management is aimed at all levels and functions within an IT services operation. It will be of particular value to staff who require to understand how Project Management should work but who do not need the expensive formal training that is available.
What some of the delegates have being saying about Pragmatic Project Management:
“An excellent introduction to project management principles”
“Now I understand the needs of a Project Manager so much better
- I will be much more co-operative to their demands in the future”
Content
The first day starts with an overview of projects and project management and why they are important. This provides delegates with a basic appreciation of the aims and objectives of the topic. The remainder of the course then follows a path through managing a project, stopping regularly to practise the activities that have been discussed.
The course organiser can chose between a number of different projects which form the basis of the course including:
- Decoration of a room
- IT hardware rollout
- Organising an event
Delegates are encouraged to use the toolkit provided as part of the course in order that a suite of suitable documentation is produced to support the learning.
Customisation
Pragmatic Project Management can be customised to begin and/or finish with a positioning session delivered by a senior sponsoring manager. Lessons learnt during the day can be related to the client’s environment and challenges and suggestions on the way forward provided.
The course can also be tailored for delivery in one day - however, much of the practical content is lost with this style of delivery.
